About Animal Assisted Counseling of Indiana
Welcome to Animal Assisted Counseling of Indiana. We are a counseling center that believes in the power of animals to help individuals in their therapeutic journey. Our approach to counseling is grounded in the principles of client-centered therapy animal assisted counseling (CCAAC) which prioritizes the needs and preferences of the client through the interaction with a canine co-therapist.
At our center, we use canines as co-therapists to facilitate the counseling process. Dogs have been shown to have a calming effect on individuals, which can help create a safe and supportive environment for therapy. We believe that dogs have a unique ability to connect with individuals in ways that humans cannot, and that they can be a powerful tool for healing.
Our client centered animal-assisted counseling sessions are conducted by licensed therapists who are trained in CCAAC. Our therapists work with a canine co-therapist. We carefully match our therapists and their canine co-therapists with our clients, taking into account the client’s preferences and needs.
During a CCAAC session, the canine co-therapist is an active participant in the counseling process. The dog may sit with the client, provide comfort, or even participate in activities that help the client work through their issues. The therapist is there to guide the session, but the dog plays an important role in creating a safe and supportive environment.
CCAAC has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Studies have shown that the presence of a dog can lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety, and improve overall mood. Clients who participate in CCAAC have reported feeling more relaxed, less stressed, and more connected to themselves and others.
At our center, we believe in the power of animals to help individuals heal and grow. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and effective therapeutic environment for our clients. If you are interested in learning more about CCAAC or scheduling a session, please contact us. We look forward to working with you, your child, your teen, you and your significant other, or family.
